Here's some amazing details of our season!

A rookie, junior high team from the East Valley wins the Arizona FIRST FTC Robotics championship! The Squires of the Lab Table are a group of friends who created a community robotics team. Together they built an innovative and robust 18”x18”x16” cone grabbing machine, “Mr. Krabs”, who helped propel them to victory in the AZ FIRST ® Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a robotics community that prepares FTC POWERPLAY challenge. FIRST® (For young people for the future through a suite of inclusive, team-based robotics programs. Squires of the Lab Table consists of a diverse group of seven teammates from 7th and 8th grade. The team captain is a female Hispanic who works diligently to pull together team alliances for each competition.

This young group of contenders learned JAVA and assembled their robot chassis over the summer of 2022. Since then, they have explored the world of motors, servo’s, encoders, sensors, linear slides, camera image recognition, and so much more. They have learned to collaborate, communicate, and appreciate the skills of each team member. With over 10 months of brainstorming, problem solving, designing, testing, practicing, and competing they have developed resilience and determination. Each teammate’s unique skills (game strategy, placing cones, coding, mechanical design, robot assembly, 3D printing, drive/gripper control, etc..) are utilized to achieve results. This rookie team was awarded Finalist Alliance, Winning Alliance, and the Innovate Award in three Qualifying tournaments leading to their triumph at the State Tournament. They also hold the Arizona State record for the highest scoring matches. The ‘Squires’ are now headed to Houston, Texas in April for the FIRST® World Championship. During the five-day tournament this amazing rookie team will compete with 191 teams from around the world.

The ‘Squires’ are an independent community team that operates without funding from a school district. Mr. Krabs and the kids need your help to represent the great state of Arizona at the World Championship!
