About This Fundraiser

Please consider donating! This topic hits home at Cincy SC.. take it from one of the club parents and the situation they've endured: "Hi, my name is Erin Kelley. My husband, Todd, and I have two boys (ages 12 and 9) who are playing for Cincy SC for their fourth years. Our children have been very happy at Cincy SC and have enjoyed and benefited from it in many ways. Todd and I have enjoyed watching our children become better players, better teammates, and build their work ethic. Cincy SC has given this family a lot of happy days and memories. In the past year and a half there have been [at least] two deaths in (healthy) athletes related to “sudden cardiac arrest”. This may not seem like a lot when you look at the numbers, but to us, it is two too many. One of these children was a family friend. Studies show Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the leading cause of sudden death in young athletes, accounting for approximately 75% of all cases. But the study also shows, if an on-site automated external defibrillator (AED) was used in the resuscitation, 89% of these athletes survived. Outside of soccer, Todd, and I both work in the medical field. We see our share of “medical miracles”, but unfortunately, we also see the other side of the coin as well. The death of our friend’s son was a brutal awakening to how fragile life is and how little control we really have over it. But we have done our research, and this is an area where we can gain more control and change the 75% statistic rate. We would like to help provide Cincy SC with several AED’s for the practice session, games, and tournaments. We have spoken with product representatives, paramedics, athletic trainers, and physicians in order to make sense of all of the literature and product reviews out there. At this time, we have a plan that would allow us as Cincy SC families to purchase at least 3 units for the club, keep them serviced, keep them up to date, and replace them as appropriate. We are attempting to do this without a cost to the club or its owners. They give us and our children so much already, as families it would be nice to reciprocate. You guessed it; we are going to ask for a monetary donation. But it is minimal and if I asked you face to face I would “bet the house” that you say your child’s life is worth it. An approximate donation of $10 per athlete with a $1/year assessment would make it possible to carry out the above plan. If people are generous and donate more, the number of units we could purchase will obviously increase. The ultimate goal would be to have one permanently placed at the Futsal Factory and then have one available for each set of fields that the club uses for practices.
