Growing up in Spirit Lake, IA, I participated in every sport possible. I wanted to be a part of anything that entailed competition, and I wanted to WIN. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Biology while playing baseball on scholarship at Briar Cliff University. Almost every season of my sports career was marred by injuries. With all of the rehabilitation and time away from the sport that I grew to love, I pursued research in contact sports, with a focus on concussion research. Our Concussion Research Team at Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine has investigated the causes of concussions, diagnosis, treatment, and techniques to lessen the symptoms. I never want to see an individual or a team fail to perform when it is beyond their control. As a Fundraising Coach for Vertical Raise, it allows teams, coaches, directors, and instructors to handle the on-field activities while we, at Vertical Raise, carry all the load to raise as much money as we can.
