    About This Fundraiser

    Fundraising is vital for the success of our program. The funds will aid us in attending the Youth Legislature event among several other Louisiana middle schools. This is a two-day mock legislative session at the Old State Capitol in Baton Rouge. Students will elect a Governor as well as House and Senate officers. They will also divide the rest of the students into senators and representatives where they will act as legislators debating and voting on bills that have been drafted by the students. Students have been working on these bills since the fall and will work hard to get their bills passed into law. It gives them a hands-on experience of the legislative process and teaches them skills that empower them to be civically engaged. Once they realize they have the power to make a change they begin to serve their neighborhoods, learn about public issues, help to create solutions to tough issues and eventually become civic minded citizens who vote and become the leaders in our schools, communities, and our nation. 

    Each participant has a monetary goal, to assist with the cost of hotel expenses and meals while at the event. Please consider donating or sharing via social media so that they may reach it. Thank you so much for your support!
